Our new favorite beer farm is Stone Silo Brewery in Damascus, MD. The family-owned brewery opened its doors on January 12th. With its wide open space for kids to play, firepits, and cozy rustic taproom that still smells like fresh construction, this brewery is a great addition to our options in Montgomery County. The friendly owners, Damascus locals Don and Susan Katzenberger, can usually be found at the brewery, and you can feel the love they’ve poured into their new business on this 70-acre farm.
While guests are allowed to bring their own food, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages are sold inside the taproom, and the brewery has partnered with some popular local food truck businesses. Vittles in the Pines and Tony’s BBQ are the primary vendors and park outside of the taproom on Thursdays from 4-7:30 pm, Fridays from 3-7:30 pm, Saturdays from 12:30-7:30 pm, and Sundays from 12:00-5:00 pm. My advice: if you know you’ll be eating, order food as soon as you arrive. Lines and wait times can become lengthy during peak hours.
I’ve been a few times now and have gotten flights to sample the beers and seltzers. I love dark beers and am a big fan of the MoCo Coco, a chocolate cherry porter. My favorite seltzer is the Damascus Donkey which is a combination of ginger and lime. Flights are $10 and include four 4 oz tasters.
Stone Silo Brewery is located at 28800 Kemptown Road, Damascus, MD 20872. The current operating hours are Thursdays from 12-8 pm, Fridays from 12-9 pm, Saturdays from 12-9 pm, and Sundays from 11 am-7pm.
